Odd estate stories

I'm collecting funny, weird, oddball, or simply strange stories about wills, estates, executors, and beneficiaries. If I get enough of them, I'll put them together into a book.

Want to take part? We'd love to hear your story.

Did someone leave you something crazy in a will? Did someone request an unusual burial or put odd requests in their will? Was a will found in a completely unexpected hiding place? Did someone you know leave millions to their cat but nothing to their kids? Click here to share your story and have it included in the book.

Feel free to share the link with your friends and colleagues.

Here are some brief examples I've seen in my own practice:

- a client requested a full Viking funeral
- another client requested that his remains be put in a garbage bag and thrown off a cliff into the ocean
- a will was found stashed inside the headboard of the deceased person's bed
- another will was found rolled up inside an empty shaving cream can in the deceased's bathroom medicine cabinet
- yet another client's will was found in a storage box in the deceased's doctor's files, after the doctor had also passed away
- an executor got fed up with the estate and quit by moving to Poland

  1. Keep these coming! The stories are beginning to trickle in and they are fabulous. Please feel free to add yours. We ask for your name only so that we can get permission to publish your story but we will never publish your name or details. This is such a fun project, I hope everyone with a "tale" will participate.

    1. Thanks! The stories are coming in pretty slowly. I encourage everyone who wants to contribute to the project to send in their anecdotes.

  4. The Will
An elderly woman decided to prepare her will and told her preacher she had two final requests.

First, she wanted to be cremated, and second,

She wanted her ashes scattered over Wal-Mart.

    "Wal-Mart?" the preacher exclaimed.

    "Why Wal-Mart?"

"Then I'll be sure my daughters visit me twice a week" :)
