New resource: DIY Advance Healthcare Directive kit

In response to the many requests coming through our office and our email, we've prepared a new resource. It's a kit that you can use to prepare your own Advance Healthcare Directive here in my province, Newfoundland and Labrador. You can find it on our website at this link. It's a fillable PDF that you can complete directly on your computer, then print and sign.

In addition to the forms (there are 4 to choose from, depending on your circumstances), the kit contains plenty of instructions about how to use it. In addition, we have uploaded a free video to our YouTube channel that goes through the kit to give you extra guidance and information for using the kit. There is already a video on our channel that specifically discussed Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) requests that you might find useful.

The cost of the kit is $50, which can be paid by credit card or PayPal on the website. If you prefer to send an e-transfer, please email chelsea@butlerwillsandestates to arrange that. All of the YouTube videos are free to watch.

An Advance Healthcare Directive is a document in which you appoint someone to speak for you and make decisions for you about your health care, medical care, and end-of-life issues. It is only used if you cannot communicate yourself, or if you cannot understand the consequences of various options. We are hearing from clients who want to get this into place during the pandemic just in case they get sick. Having some instructions in place brings peace of mind.

As always, if there are resources such as kits, videos, or downloadable forms that you'd find useful, let me know in the comments, or by emailing Chelsea at the address above.
