Since we seem to have been talking a lot about Powers of Attorney these days on my blog, I decided to bring up an article that was published in MacLean's Magazine a while ago called "Stealing From Mom and Dad". I was pleased to be interviewed for this article because I believe we all need to be aware of how rampant abuse of powers of attorney really is, and why it's so widespread. Thanks Lynne, I enjoyed the Maclean's article. While the POA for finance often takes the spotlight, it is my view that the POA for care needs to work in tandem. In a perfect world, the client's care needs should dictate what is needed and then determine the cost and how it can best be provided. In conflictual situations, it often works well when the family remains as POA for care and a financial institution holds the POA for property/finance. Thanks-
