New lives for "dead" suburban malls

Here is an article about another good idea that will help change where and how seniors live. This story is about how old shopping malls that are no longer thriving can be changed into buildings containing services that normally people have to commute to get to. Seems like a great idea. Click here to read it. I know of a centre like that in Edmonton. It used to be a run-of-the-mill shopping mall but is now the Meadowlark Health Centre, with doctors, specialists, surgeons, laboratory, x-rays, pharmacy etc. All of these are within walking distance of the nearby neighbourhoods, making it much easier for seniors to walk, use scooters or take a short drive to access them. It's all under one roof too, which is important when you have an extreme climate like ours.
